North Little Rock, Ark. – Thanks to generous holiday shoppers across the state, nearly 700 Christmas gifts of comfort were collected for Arkansas Hospice patients.

Known as the “Elf Squad,” holiday shoppers at participating merchants and through online giving added a few extra gifts to their shopping lists and dropped them in collection bins for Arkansas Hospice volunteers and clinical staff to assemble and deliver to patients.

Elf Squad gifts are loaded for delivery from 10 Arkansas Hospice area offices to patients across the state.

The gifts consisted of books, puzzles, socks, and similar personal care items were assembled into gift bags by members and staff of the Arkansas Hospice volunteer program for delivery to patients by Arkansas Hospice clinical staff.

“The Elf Squad has been wonderful way to bring joy to our patients,” said Harriet Hawkins, Arkansas Hospice’s Director of Volunteers. “Every year, we have patients who request items like socks, slippers, blankets, large-print puzzle books or personal care items. While these items might seem simple, they can make a big difference for our fellow Arkansans facing life-limiting illnesses.”

Because of the success of this year’s Elf Squad, plans are to continue and expand the program for 2022.
